There are many stages of readiness to change but if you're asking yourself this then you are in the "contemplation stage" and we can work with this! Many people begin therapy when experiencing distress with certain aspects of their life. Many people are living in a way that their behaviors/lifestyle are not in alignment with their values or needs, the goal of therapy is to increase the intentionality of your life and make hard decisions in order to live by your true values/needs/goals.
Therapy works by developing an interpersonal relationship with your therapist, this person then provides a fresh perspective to help you to identify your thoughts and feelings. For example, when you come back from vacation you may notice how messy a certain area of your home is that you didn't notice prior because you were walking by it each day- this is similar to what you may experience in therapy from a therapist providing a fresh perspective. Once your thoughts and feelings are identified your therapist will help you find new strategies to make changes to your life and/or increase your ability to cope with things you are unable to control/change.
